Rousseau's Writing and Research

Rousseau's contributions to botany largely center on his Dictionary of Botany, most of which was based on the work of Nicolas Francois Regnault's La Botanique Mise a la Portee de Tout le Monde... (1774). Below are samples from Regnault as well as from several editions of Rousseau's La Botanique de J. J. Rousseau and his Letters on the Elements of Botany.

Regnault

56 of 184 entries in Rousseau's Dictionary of Botany came from Regnault's work. Rousseau owned and annotated Regnault's La Botanique a la Portee de Tout le Monde; his copy is now conserved at the Bibliotheque de l'Assemblee Nationale in Paris.
