Heinrich Anton de Bary was a German surgeon, microbiologist, botanist and mycologist. He is considered to be a founder of the fields of plant pathology and modern mycology. He had an early interest in plants and turned that interest into a long and productive career. Some of his work in algae and related plant-life was groundbreaking. Seen here are images from two of his works: one on ferns, the other on fungi.
